I congratulate two local heroes Angelica Bucco and Wendy Birkbeck. Angelica has worked at Sunnyfield for five years as a disability support worker, entering the role with no prior experience in the sector. During her very first visit to the site for a job interview, a fire alarm sounded. The evacuation was disorienting for many clients, but Angelica stepped forward without hesitation to help people safely out of the building. In that moment, Wendy Birkbeck, a Sunnyfield participant of seven decades, chose Angelica to assist her, despite it being Angelica's first time inside the building. From that experience, a special bond formed. Angelica later became Wendy's support worker, and their friendship has grown well beyond a typical support setting. I thank Angelica, Wendy and the Sunnyfield community for their compassion and the human connection they bring to the lives of people with disability. These are local legends making a quiet but extraordinary difference every single day.
