Thank you for your interest in becoming a Justice of the Peace. JP's have such an important role in our community!
To become a Justice of the Peace you first need to apply through the Department of Communities and Justice website. Applicants must be aged 18 or over, be of good character and be an Australian citizen. They must also be eligible to vote at a general election in NSW.
If you would like to apply to be appointed as a Justice of the Peace, or to find out more about becoming a JP, you can do so via the NSW Department of Communities and Justice website linked here.
As part of the application process, you must be nominated by Member of Parliament.
The online application starts the process but your nomination will still need to be approved and submitted by a State MP. If you select Michael for the nomination, he will usually be notified 2-4 weeks after you have submitted your online application.
Alternatively, to find a JP near you, you can do so by visiting the JP Public Register via this link.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact our office via 02 9981 1111 or [email protected]. You can also contact the JP service via [email protected] or 02 8688 0500.
