I recognise one of my constituents, Cameron Read, who received the Citizen of the Year Award last month from Northern Beaches Council for his outstanding service to surf lifesaving. Cameron started as a lifesaver in 1998. Today he serves as club captain for the Dee Why Surf Life Saving Club alongside multiple senior patrol and training roles, whilst also mentoring up-and-coming lifesavers across the Northern Beaches. In late 2025 Cameron demonstrated exceptional leadership in coordinating the lifesaving response during a terrible shark attack. Those actions were later recognised as the NSW Rescue of the Year by Surf Life Saving Northern Beaches. Cameron is a strong advocate for volunteer welfare. He has driven new mental health and safety initiatives to boost morale at the Dee Why Surf Life Saving Club. His leadership, compassion and service have made a lasting impact on our community and we are so very proud to have him. On behalf of Wakehurst and the entire northern beaches community, I thank Cameron for his invaluable contribution to our community. His honour is well deserved.
