Community Recognition Statement - Northern Beaches Chorus

Today I congratulate the Northern Beaches Chorus, which recently received a second place medal in Fremantle, Western Australia, for small barbershop chorus performances in Australia. The Northern Beaches Chorus is a local women's singing group that rehearses in Belrose. It is part of the worldwide organisation the Sweet Adelines, which sings four-part barbershop a cappella. These local women, aged 16 to 80, are a great reflection of our community, with diverse cultural backgrounds.

To prepare for the regional competition in Fremantle, in addition to their standard weekly rehearsals the chorus members participated in additional rehearsals, including a weekend retreat with specialist coaches. Off the back of this competition, they competed against other community choirs of all genres at the Sydney Eisteddfod, placing second again. The Northern Beaches Chorus was one of only five choirs invited to compete in the Sydney Eisteddfod Open Choral Championship, with choirs from across New South Wales. Now the Northern Beaches Chorus members are looking forward to all the upcoming Christmas concerts. The members love to share their joy of singing, and always welcome new members. Well done to the team.
