Community Recognition Statement - Sophia Squires

I am pleased to acknowledge Sophia Squires, a seriously impressive young person from my electorate. Sophia has recently received the NSW Government State Representative Award for track and field championships.

I will soon be presenting the signed and framed award to Sophia, who will be accompanied by her very proud mother, Sarah. Sophia was only 13 years old at the time of the nomination. At age 11, she ran in the Australian junior championships 1500 metres, in which she placed fifth, and the New South Wales cross country relays, in which the team placed second.

At the age of 12, she competed in the Mini-Mos five-kilometre run, in which she placed first out of all females and fourth overall, male and female, in the unlimited age groups. Sophia has also recently competed in her school's cross-country, where she came first in her age group. I congratulate Sophia on such outstanding achievements. I have no doubt we will hear about her and her continued amazing successes in the years to come.
