Community Recognition Statement - StreetWork Northern Beaches

I acknowledge the outstanding work of StreetWork and its assertive outreach programs, which are transforming the lives of vulnerable young people in my community.

Through activities like Street Fadez, where young people, with help from a local barber business, provide haircuts to each other and local service staff, StreetWork is connecting with at-risk youth in seriously meaningful ways. I was lucky enough to hang out with the StreetWork team and participants at Dee Why. I encourage other community leaders and schools to do so as well. The awesome activities serve as a gateway, linking young people to essential services, including counselling, drug and alcohol support, and pathways back to education or employment. Warm introductions between youth and specialist services are crucial to creating the positive futures they deserve to have. I commend Nige Cottingham and the whole StreetWork team for their tireless dedication to our young people, offering them a chance to thrive.
