Community Recognition Statement - Tribute to Richie Lytham OAM

Vale to Collaroy Plateau resident Richie Lytham, OAM, who passed away on 7 May aged 78, leaving three children and four grandchildren. Richie joined Collaroy Surf Life Saving Club in 1983 and was on the club's committee for nine seasons.

For Surf Life Saving NSW, Richie served as deputy president, as a surf sports adviser and as chair of the Life Members Review Committee. He was an accredited official for 25 years. He was also the popular co-founder of Dad's Army, a wonderful group who do so many thankless tasks for New South Wales surf sport. Richie's other impressive achievements include receiving life memberships of the Sydney Northern Beaches Branch in 2000, of Surf Life Saving NSW in 2004, of the Collaroy Surf Life Saving Club in 2008 and of Surf Life Saving Australia in 2010. He also received the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and was Warringah Council Citizen of the Year in 2002. He received a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2012. Richie loved that surf lifesaving brought people together from all walks of life, made everyone feel equal and that everyone was part of a team. Vale Richie.
