Dr Peter Downey

Today I recognise the contribution of Dr Peter Downey, principal of Oxford Falls Grammar, who will conclude 40 years of service to education on Sydney's Northern Beaches at the end of this year. Dr Downey served at Peninsula Grammar school in Warriewood from 1986 to 1992, then at St Luke's Grammar School in Dee Why from 1993 to 2016, before leading Oxford Falls Grammar from 2017 until this year. Dr Downey has served literally thousands of local students—and their families—as an English teacher, a year master, a director of enrolments and PR, deputy principal and, of course, principal. He took countless students on multiple trips around the globe but loves nothing more than a muddy bush camp down a river, a good debate about Shakespeare, or even rocking out '80's style with a student band. I have enjoyed listening to Peter's oratory skills over many years of attendance at their annual graduation and celebration services. I thank Peter, along with his supportive wife, Meredith, for their contribution to our Northern Beaches community.
