Luke Chen

I am absolutely thrilled to congratulate Luke Chen, a high school student from my electorate, on receiving the prestigious NSW Government State Representative Award for his outstanding achievements in swimming at the School Sport Australia Games. Last July, Luke took the plunge with the NSW All Schools Swimming Team and made a serious splash. Competing against the best young swimmers from across the country, Luke truly rose to the occasion.

He cleaned out the competition, placing first in not just one but three events: the 400-metre individual medley, the 200‑metre individual medley and the 200‑metre backstroke. He also came in second in the 200-metre freestyle and 100‑metre backstroke and earned two bronze medals, one for the 200-metre breaststroke and the other with his team for the 200-metre freestyle relay. I am out of breath from just reading that list of incredible achievements. I had the great pleasure of meeting Luke and his mum, Betty, to present him with his well-earned NSW Government State Representative Award in person. Luke is not only a fierce competitor in the pool but also a bright, humble and hardworking student. He is remarkable. I congratulate him.
