In recognition of Wear Orange Wednesday on 20 May, I acknowledge and thank the volunteers at the NSW State Emergency Service Northern Beaches Unit. Wear Orange Wednesday is a chance for communities across Australia to recognise the dedication, sacrifice and service of SES volunteers who give their time to protect others during storms, floods, rescues and emergencies. Here on the Northern Beaches, we know how quickly severe weather can impact our community. From fallen trees and damaged homes to road closures, flash flooding and urgent calls for help, local SES volunteers are often the first to step forward. The volunteers of the Northern Beaches SES show extraordinary commitment, courage and community spirit. At all hours and in all conditions, they leave home and family to help others in difficult and dangerous circumstances. Their work is not always visible, but its impact is felt across our community. They bring calm in moments of stress, practical support in crisis, and reassurance when people need it most. That is why we wear orange: to thank the women and men of the Northern Beaches SES for their service, generosity and dedication to keeping our community safe.
