Today I rise to commend the phenomenal, ongoing work by the Sydney Rewilding Initiative within my electorate. The passion and dedication of the students, research assistants and academics involved in the projects has overseen the reintroduction of a native rodent to Allenby Park, which spans Beacon Hill, Brookvale and Allambie Heights. The project will continue to work toward the restoration of a hospitable ecosystem by minimising the human impact on the area. The boguls were some of the first documented rodent pollinators, and serve a number of other important functions in maintaining a balanced ecosystem. The team behind the Sydney Rewilding Initiative have taken great steps in advocating for the minimization of damage by domestic cats, and the removal of competitive invasive species. Thank you to the team for your great work and ongoing and persistent efforts. It is the grassroots efforts of people like you that help turn the tides and preserve crucial biodiversity in growing suburban communities. I encourage everybody to look into the great research being conducted by the team at the Sydney Rewilding Initiative.
