Bushland Guardians

I'm proud to recognise the Northern Beaches Bushland Guardians following their community celebration at Oxford Falls Peace Park on Sunday 18th October, marking the withdrawal of the Lizard Rock planning proposal. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on years of advocacy and thank those who worked to protect this precious bushland. I acknowledge Dr Conny Harris, Rachael Leah Jackson, Nicole Romain, Kristyn Glanville, Pam Dawes, Deb Harris, Sarah Baker, Marion Kiss, Sue Denham and the volunteers who collected signatures, informed residents and highlighted concerns about the proposal. In 2023, I was proud to table their petition carrying more than 12,000 signatures, bringing these concerns before Parliament for debate. Behind every signature was someone who cared deeply about our local environment. The withdrawal is a significant outcome, following sustained scrutiny and advocacy from residents, community organisations and representatives. Having actively opposed the proposal, I valued the Guardians' incredibly important contribution to that broader effort. While securing lasting protection remains important, their persistence and commitment deserve recognition. Thank you to everyone who contributed, including those who organised Sunday's celebration. Your efforts reflect our community's deep connection to its bushland and determination to protect it.
