Simon Bedard

Today I recognise Simon Bedard for his advocacy on behalf of small and family business owners across Australia. Simon is the national chair of the Australian Institute of Business Brokers [AIBB] and has been a strong voice on an issue that deserves far more attention: the looming small business succession cliff. Many business owners are approaching retirement, yet too many do not have a clear succession or exit plan. When a viable business cannot be sold or transferred, it can simply close, taking local jobs, services and years of hard work with it. We rightly talk a lot about helping new businesses start, but we must also support successful exiting businesses to continue under new ownership. Through his work with the AIBB, the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia, and policy submissions, Simon has helped to lift awareness of this challenge and the practical support that small business owners need. I thank Simon for his work in helping to protect local businesses, jobs and communities in New South Wales and across Australia.
