Community Recognition Statement - Manly, Warringah and Pittwater Historical Society

Today I congratulate the Manly, Warringah and Pittwater Historical Society, which is celebrating 100 years this month, making it the second oldest local historical society in New South Wales.

Over the past century the society has researched, recorded and preserved the history of the northern beaches. During that time of continuous, unbroken activity, it has also collected an invaluable archive of over 15,000 documents. As part of the celebrations, the society has begun to work with Northern Beaches Council to make thousands of digital archival records available to the public on council's online History Hub. Members of the society meet monthly in Curl Curl, produce a newsletter called thePeninsula Historian, and organise walks, history tours and regular talks. Members also share their rich knowledge of the northern beaches community by assisting the public with inquiries about local history. I thank all members of the Manly, Warringah and Pittwater Historical Society for their dedication to conserving so many precious memories and records, and capturing the many cultural and environmental changes in our area over the past century. Here is to another 100 years.
