Community Recognition Statement - Zac Jones

I acknowledge a local rising star: Zac Jones from Northern Beaches Secondary College Cromer Campus. As school captain, Zac is an important leader in his school, but he has also excelled at two parliamentary conferences over the past year.

Based on an essay application, Zac was selected for a conference of 200 school captains held at New South Wales Parliament in November 2023. Participants in the conference then voted for 30 from that cohort to attend the National Schools Constitutional Convention held at Old Parliament House in Canberra. Zac clearly made an impression on his peers and in March 2024 was off to Canberra as one of the New South Wales representatives.

At the convention, students were challenged to debate and vote on a potential amendment to the Constitution, and heard from leading politicians and academics to better understand the features and value of Australia's most vital document. In Cromer last week, Zac formally welcomed the Premier to the school assembly during his recent visit, speaking with confidence, charm and thoughtfulness. He made us all proud. I really admire and commend Zac for his interest and commitment to learning about our civic institutions and democratic system of government. Good on you, Zac. Keep shining bright.
