Long Reef Surf Life Saving Club

I congratulate Long Reef Surf Life Saving Club on celebrating its seventy-fifth anniversary last month. The club was founded in 1950 and started with just 29 members. At the time, the club leased part of a bus shelter from the former Department of Road Transport and Tramways to store its gear. How things have changed!

In February 2023 I joined members to usher in a new era for the club with the official opening of a brand-new, multimillion-dollar clubhouse. The clubhouse is state of the art, with upgraded public amenities, improved accessibility, storage and a cafe. The new facility will see the club continue to grow and evolve with the environment and its community for many years to come. After three-quarters of a century, the club is still having a lasting impact on the lives of countless beachgoers and local residents. Long Reef Surf Life Saving Club is proud that no lives have been lost at the beach during patrol hours. Here's to many more years of good surf and safety at Long Reef. Congratulations.
