I congratulate the Manly-Warringah Choir on celebrating its recent 50-year anniversary. The phenomenal milestone is testament to its members' enduring passion and dedication to classical music. The choir's rich history dates back to 1975 and the Warringah Symphony Society, which was dedicated to classical music, combining a choir and orchestra.
In the 1980s, after the orchestra disbanded, the choir's spirit remained unshaken as it went on to form its own orchestra. Today the choir proudly includes 77 members aged between 40 and 90 years old. They rehearse weekly in Collaroy Plateau and perform at St Paul's Catholic College in Manly. They perform in a range of languages, including Russian, Latin and Hebrew, under the support of their conductor, Dr Carlos Alvarado, who has been with the choir since 2003. On 17 August the choir will host a special performance and celebration of its golden jubilee. I applaud the choir's members for their commitment to celebrating their love of classical music and sharing it with the community. Here's to another 50 years. I promise I will not join them.
