I recognise members of the Neurodivergent Supports in Schools Working Group, who give their time, energy and lived experience to improve outcomes for neurodivergent students and their families. The group was formed following a community forum in Wakehurst, where parents, carers, educators and advocates shared deeply personal experiences of a system that too often leaves families having to fight for basic support, understanding and fairness. Since then, the working group has been generous, honest and constructive. Its members have helped identify practical issues in our schools, including inconsistent training, limited classroom support, difficulties accessing support classes, poor communication, and the stress families feel when they are left without clear answers. Their advocacy has informed discussions with the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education on teacher training, school-based support workers, transition planning from primary to high school, and the need for schools to operate more consistently as support hubs. I particularly acknowledge the parents and young people who have shared difficult experiences so others may have an easier path. This work is about ensuring neurodivergent children are understood, supported and given every opportunity to thrive. I thank every member for their insight, persistence and commitment.
