Today I recognise and honour the late Mr Jack McCoy, who was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia last month for his extraordinary contribution to surf cinematography and his lasting impact on Australia's surf culture and coastal community. That prestigious honour reflects a lifetime of creative excellence, innovation and dedication to telling the stories of the ocean and those who live alongside it. As a highly respected surf filmmaker, cinematographer and producer, Jack's career spanned decades. He created more than 30 feature films that helped shape Australian and global surf culture. His work went beyond documenting the sport; he sought to capture the deep connection between surfers and the ocean. Jack's legacy extends far beyond his filmmaking. He served as an ambassador for organisations, including Surfrider Foundation, where he used his voice and influence to promote environmental awareness and stewardship, directly strengthening the connection between community and ocean conservation. On behalf of my community, I celebrate Jack for his remarkable achievements. May his life and legacy be remembered with deep gratitude for the impact he made.
